California is just great! In the first week, we saw many things and had great experiences. The landscape is wonderful here, I especially love the sea. The school is very interesting and our class was very small (only 5 students) but I liked it. Our teachers were very friendly and easygoing. My host mum and dad were so nice, that I felt very comfortable at home. I have a very big closet and a bed and I share the bathroom with a Korean girl, who is a student at Santa Monica College. We only have school until 12.15, so in the afternoon we have a lot of time to go shopping, lay on the beach and drive around the city and countryside. One evening, we drove to an Outlet store and it was great there. We went iFlying at Universal Studios in Hollywood as a school activity. It was great, but not better than my amazing experience on when we actually went Skydiving! I’ve never done anything better than this, it was just amazing! We jumped out of a plane, which was 12’500 feet high, these are ca. 3’800 meters. I would like to do it again! Exploring LA is amazing!

My experience at EC was just great, interesting, and very fun. I learned a lot and it was awesome! My best memory was the skydiving activity. It was exciting and unreal, like in another world. It was awesome. The level was good. I learned a lot. I could use my English skills and I got better in three weeks. My class was great and the teachers were great! To prospective students: You should come to ECLA because of the location. The location is great! The school is new and everything is clean and perfect. Santa Monica is beautiful and the staff is AWESOME! I am going to miss my time here.

I chose LA because it’s the sunniest state of America. I chose ECLA because it is the nearest school from my host’s home. My class was fun and had a good mix. My speaking and pronounciation are better. My best memory was going to iFly indoor skydiving with my class and my lovely teacher. Also, the dinner at the Saddleranch Chophouse with my classmates and the staff was really fun. To future students, you can be glad to go there. It is a new school, the facilities are new. It’s modern, central, in the middle of Santa Monica, and the staff is the best ever; nice and cute, and if you have a problem they have always an ear to listen.

France

Student Testimonial
I’m Chloe, a French student who went in EC Los Angeles for one month. Since my first day here, I had a good time at school, at the homestay and also with the other guys that I met. If I had the chance to stay longer, I would do it because I have again a lot of things to discover. The school has a great location, in a huge modern building, near beaches, downtown and bus station allowing students to play beach volley, shopping, and meet American people. But I think that the most important is the fact of being very comfortable at school. All the teachers and staff members do a great job. They are friendly, warm, cheerful and reliable. Moreover we improved our English with some great games in class, and thanks to that it was fun and easy to learn. The school is new, so rooms are very clean and well equipped. The school is constantly preparing exciting activities like skydiving, trips to San Diego, Las Vegas, visiting the Zoo, Museums, playing beach volleyball, discovered Universal Studios, Hollywood etc… It’s the perfect way to get the students together and improve their relationships.

My host family was very friendly, Natalie enjoys a very active life. In fact, I did many activities with her like going to the cinema, to the theater, visited the city. She lives in a great area named Pacific Palisades which there are beautiful houses and views. I just wanted to thank you for this amazing experience and I can recommend EC LA to everyone. I really enjoyed my month here!

All of the teachers at EC are friendly, kind and generous. I really like the way they teach. It is not just technical but they also help students by learning from their culture and make me feel at home in the classroom.

During my time at EC I've had a lot of unforgettable memories and will not forget any of them. My homestay was amazing, the family was wonderful and I especially loved Phebe's cooking. I am going to miss them all.

I really would like to recommend EC for anyone who is after an unforgettable study aborad experience.

Los Angeles, California

Teacher Testimonial
I knew the first day of kindergarten that I would become a teacher one day! Of course, I've come a long way since kindergarten and am excited to be at EC Los Angeles!

In high school, I volunteered at a local elementary school and met a first grade girl who had recently immigrated from Iran. She spoke no English at all, and I worked with her for the year so that she could become integrated into her class. It was an experience that showed me that I had talent and passion for teaching English. Since then, I've geared my life towards improving as a teacher by going to university, travelling and working with different types of students. I especially enjoy teaching ESL because I see how students from different countries and cultures not only get to learn a language but also learn about each other.

I came to EC Los Angeles with teaching experience, but I've learned so much about teaching from EC's method. I’m excited to be developing as a teacher so that I can tailor each of my lessons to my students and their specific needs. I want to be the teacher that students remember as the one who cared about them and their learning and as the teacher who helped them markedly improve their English. I know that the EC method is the best way to ensure that I will be the teacher that I want to be!

New York and Los Angeles USA

Teacher Testimonial
I grew up in New York City on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. When I was 17 I moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California where I earned a BA in Humanities with a minor in Cinema/Television Critical Studies. Soon after, I began my teaching career as a Guest Teacher with both the Los Angeles and Pasadena Unified School Districts. Some years later I moved to Seattle to study at the University of Washington School of Drama, from which I received my Master’s. Following that, I merited a University of Cambridge CELTA Certificate (Grade of A) from Teaching House Los Angeles.

In my teaching career I have taught English and Drama with a number of institutions, notably the University of Washington, the Tacoma Actors Guild, the Green Dot Charter Schools, Stone Soup Theatre, Los Angeles Pacific College, the Mentor Language Institute of Beverly Hills, Kings College Los Angeles, and now ECLA (the finest of the lot).

I am also a professional actor with numerous credits, a member of the Screen Actors Guild, the producer of over 25 theatrical productions, a produced playwright and screenwriter, and a professional photographer!

Mexico City and LA Los Angeles USA

Teacher Testimonial
I was born in Mexico City so Spanish is my first, first language. My parents moved to Los Angeles when I was 8 at which point English became my second, first language. I studied Global Studies, Sociology and Art History at the gorgeous University of California, Santa Barbara. I’ve always had a fascination for cultural customs, languages and food. I studied French, Italian and Catalan while at UCSB, none of which I am fluent in unfortunately. My international travel is limited as I have only been between Mexico and the United States. I have been lucky enough to have seen a good portion of the United States, although some of my students have seen more of the U.S. which is a little embarrassing to be honest. My goal is to see the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Zion Park by the end of 2014!

Living in Los Angeles allows you to nurture your love for adventure so it the perfect place for me. There is always something to do, sometimes too much. My all-time favorite thing to do on weekends is playing volleyball in Venice Beach. I love the challenge, the sand, and the opportunity to meet new people. The remainder of my time is spent discovering new places to eat or see with friends, something I will never grow tired of.

My recommendation for future ECLA students is to come prepared to be challenged and an adventurous spirit to make the best of your experience here in Los Angeles.

LA Southern California

Teacher Testimonial
My name is Ryan, and I’m a 24 year old Southern California native. In 2011 I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Anthropology from UC Santa Barbara. I love music, traveling and working with people of all ages. Last year I taught English and studied Chinese in Taipei, Taiwan. I lived in the city center, near the famous building, Taipei 101. I had an excellent and adventurous time learning a new language, experiencing a new culture and meeting so many new and wonderful people.

In my spare time, I enjoy listening to records, surfing beside Santa Monica pier and going out to try new and delicious restaurants in Los Angeles. Watching funny YouTube videos is a guilty pleasure of mine which has consumed hours upon hours of my life.

During my time at EC I have tried to achieve a positive and interactive learning environment, whereupon my classes are continuously speaking, reading, writing and learning. I believe in an encouraging and fun learning environment where students are able to enjoy the experience of learning, rather than solely doing exercises from a book.

I hope to stay at EC and further explore the amazing city that is Los Angeles and am looking forward to an exciting future in the months to come. I am a very positive and open person, so if you see me walking by you in the hallway, don’t hesitate to say “Hello!”
