Brooklyn School of Languages is a local, independent school with a friendly atmosphere and excellent customer service. Our focus in on our students and helping them meet their language learning goals in our comfortable school in Brooklyn Heights, just one subway stop from Manhattan.
Our classes are small to ensure students receive the best possible language learning experience. Our school offers modern classrooms, a small communal kitchen area, free internet access and Wi-Fi and stunning views of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn.
Our school is located in Brooklyn Heights, just 5 minutes walk from the famous Brooklyn Promenade which looks out over Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge. There are a wide range of shops, restaurants and bars all within a few minutes' walk of the school, and the nearest subway stop, serving the 2, 3, 4, 5 and R lines, is right outside the school entrance.
The English language programs at BSL reflect the cultural diversity and life in New York City and its borough of Brooklyn. All of our courses are designed to improve your English language skills in an effective and enjoyable way. BSL has expert teachers who use communicative methods in small student-centered classes (12 students max per class for general English, and 8 for Business English).
The great advantage of studying with BSL is that our accommodation is within a relatively short subway ride from school.
Homestay - Living as part of an English speaking household is simply the best way to truly immerse yourself in the language. You will be practicing the English you have learned every day with other English speakers, which means that you will never stop learning and improving your fluency. At BSL, we recruit our host families ourselves so we know exactly where we place our students. They are all in Brooklyn, on average 30 minutes to school on public transport.
We offer B&B, Hald-Board as well as Room Only (with cooking allowed) for students looking for more independence.
Shared Student House - Our shared student house is located in up-and-coming Bed-Stuy (short for Bedford-Stuyvesant), 20 minutes to school by subway on a direct line. This accommodation option is ideal for more independent-minded students who are interested in living with other students from the school.
We offer activities and excursions to places of interest throughout New York City. Activities are optional and students are welcome to sign up at school. These activities may include museums, sport events, movie nights, walking tour of iconic locations or famous buildings, happy hours, lunches...
We also compile a list of things to do in the city every week for our students: temporary or one-off events, festivals, what not to miss, what to do that's free etc... These recommendations help our students make the most of their stay in NY and often allow them to discover places or attend events they would not have heard of otherwise.
